Orbiting WASP-81 | 398.5 parsecs away

Share

WASP-81 b is a Super-Jupiter exoplanet (an exceptionally massive gas giant), about 16.0 times the radius of Earth. Its scorching equilibrium temperature of 1623 K (1350°C) makes it far too hot for liquid water. The planet completes one orbit around its star every 2.7 Earth days. It was discovered in 2017 using the transit method. It orbits the star WASP-81, located approximately 399 parsecs (1300 light-years) from Earth.
